Mellcat Lass, a daughter of champion greyhound Cosmic Rumble

Promising newcomer Mellcat Lass looks to have the perfect chance to continue her impressive start to racing at Goulburn on Tuesday.

The John Mellon-trained pup jumps from box one in the day’s feature race, the 5th grade Palmerbet Novice 1-3 Wins Final (race eight, 440m), aiming to score a fourth win in her first seven starts.

Mellcat Lass was an impressive 20.20 winner over the 350m at Goulburn on January 31 and scored a 25.53 victory from box two in last week’s heats.

She has placed in both of her two starts from box one so far and can take advantage of the rails draw to salute again.

Fear The Phoenix (box two), who won well in last week’s heats, looks the biggest danger from while Mellcat Lass’s sibling Mellcat Miss looks a decent each-way chance from box six.

Two local greyhounds – Albatross Maid and Strictly Rhythm – can score victories in races two and 10 respectively.

Albatross Maid, trained by Tallong’s Subawa Ngurah, has placed well in two of her last three starts and can score her elusive first win in this race from box four.

Strictly Rhythm (box one), mentored by Castlereagh’s Lewis Galea, has won on his last two visits to Goulburn and looks ideally positioned to triumph again.

Sheza Pretzel (box four) disappointed last start at Maitland when finishing seventh but can atone by winning a heat of the 5th grade Madbookie 1-3 Wins Series (race five, 350m).

The Cheryl Betts-trained pup won over this distance at Goulburn from the same draw on December 20 in a decent time and looks capable of beating this field.

Headline Hunter made a good impression on his second start at Goulburn last week and looks the best bet in the 5th grade Palmerbet Stakes (race 11, 440m).

The Edmund O’Brien-trained newcomer secured his maiden victory over the 440m last week in a decent 25.65 and can repeat that win this week.

Eleven races are on the card and action starts at 12.12pm.
