Goulburn Racing Returns

Shannon Kirby scored one of the best wins of his training career last week and could be celebrating again at today’s Goulburn meeting.

The NSW Central West trainer has Benji’s Friend (box seven) looking a decent chance to score yet another victory in the GRNSW Masters Stakes (race nine, 440m).

Benji’s Friend has compiled a consistent strike record of 25 wins and 23 minor placings from 67 starts for Kirby, who won the Orange Cup at his local Bathurst track with Kilkee May last Monday.

The daughter of Where’s Pedro and Lachlan’s Gift also won at Bathurst last week and is in racing well, with two wins and three minor placings in her last six starts.

This is her first visit to Goulburn since November 2015 but she has placed in her last two starts from box seven and has the pace to defeat these.

Blayney Opal (box one) is resuming after a month out but looks ideally positioned to win the first heat of the 5th grade Madbookie Goulburn-Richmond Series (race four, 350m).

The Cliff Rushworth-trained greyhound scored four successive wins before a last failure at Richmond and won over this distance at Goulburn in December in a smart 20.12.

Jordanic (box two) has run some good races at Goulburn and looks well positioned to take out the second heat (race five).

Blaze Of Glory (box four) returned to top form with a smart 19.97 victory at Goulburn in November and looks the top pick in the third heat (race six).

The Damian Cormie-trained greyhound has endured an interrupted career but is a solid performer at country tracks and can score a victory here if in full fitness.

Smashing Sarah (box four) has the talent to overcome the tricky draw and salute in the fourth heat (race seven).

The Neil Falk-trained greyhound scored four placing in six starts before a last start failure over the 330m at Richmond last week and can go better here.

She ran a decent 20.39 at Goulburn in October and with a clean start can defeat this field.
